Tiptree is a small country town with a traditional village atmosphere between Maldon and Colchester on the northern edge of the Blackwater Ridge. It has grown over the past 50 years or so from a village internationally famed for fruit growing .The area of housing with some light industry is completely surrounded by farmland with many attractive villages, yet it is very close to a mainline railway connection to Liverpool Street making it an increasingly attractive place to live for commuters.
The Medical Centre houses 4 Doctors, currently 2 partners and 2 salaried GPs and also a nurse practitioner. It is a PMS Practice with a list size of approximately 11,000. It is the only Practice in Tiptree. On the ground floor of the building there are 6 consulting rooms and 2 further clinical rooms used by practice nurses together with the reception and waiting areas, upstairs are administrative and meeting areas. The premises are modern and functional. We are virtually paperless.
There is a full time practice manager, 3 practice secretaries together with numerous mainly part time reception and ancillary staff. As well as our full time nurse practitioner our other practice nurses are given a relatively high degree of autonomy and operate a triage system for same day and urgent appointments. The following clinics are run : CHD, Asthma, Diabetes, Family Planning, Warfarin, Antenatal, Minor Surgery, CHS.
There is close liason with the local primary healthcare team and regular meetings. Most hospital referrals are to Colchester but the Chelmsford group of hospitals are also used.
The Practice has been a Training Practice since 1994. Weekly tutorials and regular discussion of patients seen by the Registrar form the basis of much of the training.
Out of hours cover is provided by NORDOC the local Colchester based GP co-op. The practice is involved in the provision of immediate care and one partner is the chairman of North Essex Doctors Emergency Service.
