Parsons Heath is a well established group practice based in N.E. Colchester and has approximately 11,500 patients mostly living within a mile radius of the surgery. We also have some patients registered in the nearby villages of Ardleigh, Great Bromley and Elmstead Market.
Colchester is, in the main a prosperous town. However, there are some pockets of deprivation within our practice area. The practice is run by 6 GP partners. Peter Sampson, Martin Hargreaves, Una O’Callaghan, Wendy Faerestrand each work 8 sessions in the practice, Jane Beauchamp 7 sessions and Glenys Johnson is a half time partner. Sue Pickford works 6 sessions in the practice as a salaried doctor.
We are supported by a skilled Primary Healthcare Team of Nurse Practitioners, Practice nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Administrative and Office staff, lead by Jan Wood our Practice Manager.
GPs hold surgeries every morning and afternoon/evening with specific chronic disease and nurse led clinics throughout the week. Nurse practitioners trained in minor illness run daily surgeries and provide a valued service for our patients. Our Health visitor has close links with the practice and we have a counsellor who undertakes sessions in person centred counselling and CBT on site.
Dr Wendy Faerestrand is the GP Trainer in the practice has had F2 doctors and GP Trainees attached which has been exciting and educationally stimulating for all concerned. The practice has a history of GP training and Dr Faerestrand was trained in the practice by Dr Oliver Middleton some years ago. The practice has been re-accredited as a Training practice and is keen to provide our GP Registrar with a positive, varied, enjoyable educational experience.
Parsons Heath uses the EMIS PMS system and is paper light. It has an excellent practice website which is a useful resource for patients and staff. The practice aims to provide high quality care our patients and scores highly in new GMS quality framework. The Registrar will have their own consulting room, daily opportunity to discuss patients with the Trainer and a weekly 2 hour tutorial. In addition attendance at the Colchester VTS whole day release on alternate Wednesdays will give valuable opportunity to learn with other registrars.
