Notes from Colchester Trainers Workshop Meeting 18/11/10
Update from the Course Organisers
- Educational Supervision Reports due in by 30th November 2010 – please set review date as day of review – this means that assessments done in December and January are then valid towards the May review.
- PMETB survey – two negative areas reported back to the workshop from the recent survey - one was a problem in paediatrics and the other was a low number of hours of education received while in practice – should be at least 4 hours week – 2 hours tutorial; 2 hours debriefing; this is in addition to the VTS scheme which provides about 14 hours a month; there was one registrar who claimed to be receiving no education at all!
- Trainees Christmas Dinner is on Wednesday 8th December – trainers are all to be invited by their registrars!
- Encourage trainees to complete OOH database – their OOH should also be also be recorded by the trainee in their eportfolio
- VTS website has dates for next year on it – including the residential weekend with Roger Neighbour as an invited speaker
- Following Deanery cutbacks Trainer visits/inspections will be less frequent – probably every 6 years with self assessment every 3 years. It is thought that attendance at trainer workshops will be required – an attendance record of 50% has been discussed as the standard; also peer review of videoed tutorials will be required – replacing the video shown at inspection visits – how this will be organised will be discussed at the next meeting in January as part of our meeting planning for next year
- Trainees are having problems with AKT and CSA – the national pass rate has been a cause for concern and our local pass rate has fallen slightly to around 75% success in each.
Barbara Murray took us through the Learning Log Validation using the RCGP examples
