Ardleigh Surgery is a small rural practice enthusiastic about training. It has been a training practice for four years and has a GP Trainer and a nurse practitioner with teaching commitments.
The surgery is located in the village of Ardleigh 3 miles north of Colchester. There are nearly 6,000 patients registered here. The practice area is large covering several neighbouring villages including Dedham and Manningtree. As a rural practice we dispense from the surgery for the majority of our patients.
There are three partners, a nurse practitioner, a practice nurse and a retained doctor. The practice works with community nurses, health visitors, midwives, chiropodists and counsellors who all visit the premises. We are well supported by our full time Practice Manager, dispensers and administrative staff. The Practice Manager serves on the Board of the Colchester Practice Based Commissioning Group. We are also well equipped, for example, with a spirometer, ECG machine, 24 hour BP machine and a defibrillator.
We aim to provide a high quality of comprehensive care and have one of the lowest referral rates in the district.
We use the EMIS computer system and aim to be “paper light”. We operate a system of booked appointments and open urgent sessions every week day.
The practice is based in a purpose built surgery currently undergoing extension, which will be finished by May 2007 giving us extra clinical and teaching space.
